Stage Acting Basics with Bruce Morey

Discover the actor within you at Ann Arbor Civic Theatre’s engaging acting workshop! Perfect for adult students preparing for roles in community theatre, this class introduces the essentials of scene analysis, character development, and proven memorization techniques to help you shine on stage. Taught by Education Chair Bruce Morey, the workshop uses Meisner techniques thoughtfully adapted for community theatre and amateur productions, providing a supportive and practical learning environment. Whether you’re new to acting or looking to deepen your skills, this class will give you the tools and confidence you need to bring your next role to life.

Dates: Sundays, Nov 9, 16 and 23 from 3-5:30 pm

Cost: $75/person for members, $93.75/person for non-members

Audition Workshop for Youth Theatre

Step into the spotlight with Ann Arbor Civic Theatre’s Youth Audition Workshop! Designed for ages 8–14, this fun and supportive class gives young performers the confidence and skills to shine on stage. Led by director Olivia Allen, the workshop will cover the secrets of a successful audition in a hands-on, encouraging environment.

Dates: Sunday, December 7, 2 – 4pm

Cost: $20/student

For youth 8 – 14. Classes will be capped at 12 participants.

Olivia Allen (she/her) is a Teaching Artist, Director, and Theatre for Young Audiences Practitioner based in Ypsilanti, MI. She is a Part-Time Lecturer at EMU and the Education Director at Spinning Dot Theatre in Ann Arbor. Olivia has undergraduate degrees in Theatre and Speech/Debate/Drama Education and an MFA in Applied Drama and Theatre for the Young. Olivia loves teaching theatre and is thrilled to be at A2CT!

A2CT Theatre Arts Club

Join us for lively conversations, networking, and of course, plenty of dramatic flair! All levels of experience are welcome, especially novices or those first exploring the adventure of live theatre.

In this group we are exploring the art and science of acting, tailoring sessions for each individual's experience level and prior experience with acting. We use theatre games, one page scenes and longer scripts to expand the acting abilities of each participant. The eventual goal is up to you...if you want to just have fun in each meet-up, eventually audition for the first time or hone your experienced acting skills with new characterizations to land challenging roles. It is up to you.

Meetings are aimed at retirees and those in non-traditional jobs, meeting on Wednesdays 11:30am – 1:30pm starting September 10.

Stage Play Developmental Group

Want to work with others on developing plays? This meet-up style group is designed for participants to develop play ideas, read current work and help others with their ideas. This group, sponsored by the Ann Arbor Civic Theatre, will primarily focus on stage plays to be performed live. 

For ages 16+, limit 12 participants per session.

Dates: Every Saturday starting September 13, 2025 at 11:00 am to 1:00 pm

Cost: $5 for members of A2CT, $10 for non-members
